The Giver
“No one has ever become poor by giving.” – Anne Frank
This quote inspires nEbO Leader Leom Sheng Peng through his volunteering journey and more. Sheng Peng demonstrated a giving spirit since young when he used to sacrifice $2 of his $6 pocket money to donate to aunties selling tissue papers along the way to school. This giving spirit empowered Sheng Peng to continue volunteering and giving back to the community – rallying his family and friends to volunteer and donate towards social causes.
During the Chinese New Year celebrations each year since 2021, Sheng Peng rallied his friends and followers on social media to give red packets and Mandarin oranges to people who may need it or to less appreciated unsung heroes, like cleaners and security guards. In 2022, Sheng Peng initiated the nEbO Batam CSR 2022, bringing a group of Singaporean youths to volunteer for an orphanage and a slum community in Batam. Sheng Peng led the team to raise $3,000 Singapore Dollars, donating all of it in the form of daily essentials to the orphanage and slum community.
The Advocate
Sheng Peng’s volunteering journey doesn’t stop with himself. As a personal development enthusiast, Sheng Peng took the step to be certified as an International Coaching Federation (ICF) life coach. He is currently on the way to earning his Associate Certified Coach (ACC) accreditation. Till date, Sheng Peng has mentored more than 30 youths throughout their volunteering journey. This includes bringing on his brothers and mentoring them on their first volunteering projects.
Sheng Peng is also a strong advocate for the youth. He has represented nEbO as a voice for the youth in several ministerial dialogues. A topic he is passionate about is mental wellness – Sheng Peng is a trained hotline counselling personnel in the Singapore Armed Forces where he answered hotline calls ranging from distressed servicemen to suicidal calls. He also participated in nEbO’s inaugural Peer Support Programme in 2023.
